RESEARCH

How it works

From your question to a clearer picture.

You do not need a complete family tree or a finished account. We start with what you know, identify what is worth investigating and agree on a practical way forward.

Four simple steps

01

Start with your question

Tell me what you would like to discover and share any names, dates, photographs, letters or other records you already have.

02

Agree on the work

We discuss what may be possible. Before I begin, we agree on the priorities, estimated time, costs and what you will receive.

03

Follow the evidence

I search the available sources, compare what they tell us and place the findings in their historical context. Uncertainty stays visible.

04

Receive the findings

I present the results in the form we agreed, together with the sources and any questions that remain open. Further research or a personal visit is optional.

Time, costs and what you receive

Every project is different. A small archive question may require only a few hours; reconstructing a personal history can take longer. We discuss the likely work and estimated cost in advance. If the scope needs to change, we agree on that before continuing.

The result might be a short, sourced summary or a more detailed account, depending on what we agree. Historical records can be missing, contradictory or inaccessible. I will tell you what the evidence supports, and what remains unknown.

What would you like to find out?

Tell me about the person, place or question you are interested in. We can discuss the possibilities before you decide to proceed.
